Emotional Freedom Technique is a meridian energy therapy which has evolved over the last two decades out of Kinesiology and Acupressure. Earliest well–documented evidence of Acupuncture-like treatments date back to 3,200 BC.

Consolidating the ancient Chinese and Japanese meridian therapies, a book was written between 475 and 221 BC, “The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Medicine” which describes the meridians in a way which is still recognisable today – it described the use of metal needles and in earlier times sharp stone or bamboo splinters.

In the mid 60’s links between meridian points, the body’s organs and muscle strength was investigated and a diagnostic therapy based on muscle testing was developed. This is known today as Applied Kinesiology. By the 70’s Kinesiology was being studied with other energy therapies particularly those that involved tapping on meridian points.

In the 80’s this technique was tested on a lady, Jane, who had a deep phobia of water and had unsuccessfully tried different treatments to overcome her fear for years. Dr Roger Callaghan tried his tapping technique and found that tapping on meridian points just below Jane’s eye, while she focused on her phobia of water, completely removed her fear and it never returned. This is Emotional Freedom Technique.

It is being used successfully worldwide by many therapists, including Paul McKenna on his 'I can make you thin' and 'I can change you life' programmes currently showing on television.
